Bill Gates says in newly revealed footage that it was “scary” how much President Trump knew about his daughter’s “appearance” when he first met the president.
The former Microsoft CEO and co-founder made the comment in a video that was revealed and aired on MSNBC’s “All In With Chris Hayes” on Thursday night.
“When I first talked to him it was actually kind of scary how much he knew about my daughter’s appearance,” Gates said. “Melinda [Gates’s wife] didn’t like that too well.”
In the video footage, taken while he was addressing staff at the Gates Foundation, Gates recounted meeting Trump for the first time after the election, noting that Trump had previously met his 22-year-old daughter, Jennifer, at an equestrian event in Florida.
He also said that Trump left the event and returned later in a helicopter, in order to make “a grand entrance.”
“[Trump] went up and talked to Jen and was being super nice,” Gates said. “And then, like 20 minutes later, he flew in in a helicopter to the same place. Clearly he had been driven away but he wanted to make a grand entrance in a helicopter.”
Gates also spoke about two later meetings with Trump about science and innovation, one at Trump Tower and another at the White House.
He said that during both meetings, Trump asked him what the difference was between HIV and HPV, and if he believed vaccines were dangerous.
“Both times he wanted to know if there was a difference between HIV and HPV,” Gates said. “So I was able to explain that those were rarely confused with each other.”
